Community Voices digital media awards Add News59 to Scrapbook

The Community Voices Project aims to inspire, engage and support disadvantaged and isolated communities across England to get their voices heard through Digital Media. Led by Media Trust, and running until March 2011, Community Voices will provide funding of up to £14,000 for 26 grassroots groups to develop media projects in their communities, alongside one major new initiative. Media Trust will also provide comprehensive tools and resources for communities to increase engagement through digital media.

ICT workshops - survey of development workers Add News58 to Scrapbook

The regional ICT project will shortly be offering ICT workshops for third sector local infrastructure organisations (LIOs). These will be aimed at development workers and other staff involved in providing support to frontline organisations. The purpose of these workshops is to enable LIO development workers to be more skilled and confident about supporting organisations with their ICT needs. For example, the workshops will provide key tools for signposting organisations to appropriate sources of help, including the wide range of ICT resources which are available online.

Topics covered will include: What help is available to organisations, Benefits of ICT, Costing and funding ICT, ICT planning, DiY health checks, Social media, Other resources and ‘top tips'.  N.B. These workshops have been designed for non-technical staff – you do not need to be an ICT ‘expert' to take part, quite the opposite.

Background

The Digital Activist Inclusion Network (DAIN) is an exciting innovative transnational project which aims to develop, test and deliver approaches to challenge the digital divide, ultimately helping to widen participation in employment and learning.

DAIN will operate in eight areas across the East Midlands. The project will deliver 200 community-based Information & Communication Technology courses per year and will recruit, train and support at least 100 volunteers from the local target communities who will be known as Digital Activists. The role of the Digital Activist will be to engage and encourage people experiencing digital exclusion to get involved in using digital technology.

This conference will explore practical approaches to challenging digital exclusion. The event will be of particular interest to:

- volunteers and those who are considering taking up this role
- local and regional community and voluntary sector organisations
- learning providers
- those engaged in production of new media, e.g. film makers, podcasters; and
- service providers promoting online services.

ICT health-checks for third sector infrastructure organisations Add News56 to Scrapbook

The Regional ICT Project is now up and running, and is offering ICT health-checks to third sector infrastructure organisations. 45 organisations across the region will be able to benefit from these in depth ICT health-checks, which are fully funded by BIG Lottery fund. The health-checks will help organisations to review their uses of ICT and to plan for the future.

BT Community Connections awards Add News53 to Scrapbook

Do you know a community or charitable organisation that is looking for IT equipment and wants to get online?  If so, they can apply for a BT Community Connections award today. BT Community Connections is an award scheme which enables community and charitable organisations to get online. Groups can apply for a laptop and a year’s free broadband connection. Award packages will be given to groups who can demonstrate how an award will benefit their work and the local community.

Any organisation , working in any field of community benefit, located anywhere within the United Kingdom or the Republic of Ireland can apply.  In the past voluntary projects, silver-surfers, conservation organisations , family support groups, sports teams and youth groups have been successful.  To find out more and see case studies from past winners simply visit www.btcommunityconnections.com  T he deadline for postal applications is 5 January 2010. New regional ICT project Add News51 to Scrapbook
A new regional ICT infrastructure project will shortly be launched in the East Midlands. The project will provide support and advice to third sector infrastructure organisations throughout the region, including ICT ‘health checks’ and workshops for development workers. The project has been made possible by a succesful funding bid, which will see an investment of over £300K in ICT from the Big Lottery Fund over the next three years.
